Text Box: “The word just came out as I was typing these words, that Pope Benedict has approved a miracle attributed to the intercession of Pope John Paul II, and announced May 1, 2011, as the date of his beatification. It has been six years since Pope John Paul died, and while that is a somewhat speedy process, the late pope’s holiness has long been recognized. There were chants of ‘Sainthood now’ even at his funeral. We rejoice with the whole world that such a man answered God’s call and served him so well in holiness. We recognize that holiness and will soon have ‘Blessed John Paul’ to continue to intercede for us here on earth.
“Here at home, the winter weather has slowed things down, and indeed when roads and travel are dangerous, you should stay safely at home. But I hope that there won’t be a lot more snow and we can get the New Year under way. Again, if you are interested in volunteering for the MPH Anniversary Committee (to plan activities for the 100th anniversary of the building/dedication of the church) or the Assumption or MPH Liturgy Committee (to plan the implementation of the new Mass translations), please let me know by filling in the form at the end of the bulletin and returning it to me or the collections.
     “God bless.”...Fr. Dave

Action Requested by MO Catholic Conference - Governor Nixon halted Rick Clay's execution and commuted his sentence to life without parole.  It is not an easy political decision for a governor to use his constitutional authority to grant clemency in a death penalty case.  Please show your appreciation to Gov. Nixon - thank him for his act of mercy. Contact him at constitservices@mo.gov or call 573-751-3222.

Rescheduled! - Meal at Chop House Grille in Linn has been rescheduled to Wednesday, January 26, at 5:30 p.m. $2 off each person’s meal.  Sponsored by MWA.  For info, call Lorna Rost 294-7276.

Find Help for Your Troubled Marriage through the next St. Louis Retrouvaille Program that starts Feb. 11-13, 2011, with a weekend (Friday night thru Sunday), and has six follow-up sessions held over three months. For confidential information, call 1-800-470-2230 toll free, or visit  www.retrouvaille.org.

Stewardship Quote - As the prophet Isaiah proclaims in the first reading, the Lord continues to remind us that we are his servants. We belong to the Lord and are called to shine his light on others. It is in that way that Christ's salvation may be revealed. Reflect this week on what it means to be a servant instead of a master; opening up our lives to others instead of controlling others' lives; and making daily choices that show care, compassion and love for others.

Vocation Blurb - Meet the real Men In Black: go to www.discoverthepriesthood.org.
