This weekend we once again begin our annual Catholic Stewardship Appeal. This is our opportunity to support the work of the larger Church through our diocese of Jefferson City. We indeed belong to a Church that is more than just us here in Chamois and Morrison. We belong to a universal Church. As such, we join with our fellow Christians in Linn, Tipton, and Hannibal, and all the towns of central Missouri; with those in St. Louis, Kansas City and Springfield and all the dioceses of the US and the world to promote and further the work of Christ. Our diocese of Jefferson City is the means for us doing this. This is our responsibility and we can’t deny or avoid it. I call on each and every one of us to prayerfully discern how we are to be fulfilling this obligation. As you saw in The Catholic Missourian, Assumption has a goal of $3000, and Most Pure Heart of Mary a goal of $2666. God Bless you.

Nursing Home Mass – A Mass will be offered for “Irene Ranabarger” on Thursday, Oct. 18, at 10:00 a.m. at Autumn Meadows in Linn.  Everyone is welcome to attend.

The Catholic Stewardship Appeal is beginning again in our parish. You will receive information at your home. This appeal is our opportunity to join each other throughout mid Missouri to bring the love of Jesus to those in need and participate in the saving work begun by Jesus.   As you make your decision about your participation, please return completed card to the diocese in the envelope provided as soon as possible.

One Sunday For The Whole World - Next Sunday, Pope Benedict XVI calls every Catholic in the world to celebrate our vocation to be missionary. It’s World Mission Sunday!  As Catholics around the world — here at home and in the Missions — gather at the Eucharist around the table of the Lord, we are to pray for the Church’s worldwide missionary work. We pray for those awaiting the “Good News” of our Lord’s great love for us and for the missionaries who offer the poor and suffering the light of Christ. And we are to offer financial help through the Society for the Propagation of the Faith for more than 1,150 dioceses in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Pacific Islands.  Please check your contribution envelope packet for the special envelope for “World Missions”.

Applebutter for Sale - $10/quart, $5.50/pint.  Contact a senior class member, Kathy Mehmert, or the school at 573-763-5393.  Limited number of pints and sugar free.  Thank you for helping to send the seniors on their senior trip!

Your Money – Have More, Do More, Be More - Free workshop in financial education Oct. 17, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the Fr. Ahrens Room (church basement) at St. Peter parish in Jeff  City.  Open to anyone.  The goals of this two-hour workshop are to learn about setting family/personal goals, balancing income with spending, living on less, saving money, taking control of your money, accessing credit reports, and predatory lending.  For more info/to register (a must), contact Barbara Ross bross@cccnmo.org or Jake Seifert jseifert@cccnmo.org, or call 573-635-7719.  If you leave a voice message, leave your name, address, phone number and e-mail address.

Faithful Citizenship – The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops calls for renewed politics that focus on moral principles, the defense of life, the needs of the weak, and the pursuit of the common good.  For a brief document that summarizes their teachings, pick up a copy of The Challenge of Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship from the back of church.

Do you love America? Love of country is natural and our Catholic faith calls us to participate in civic life and that includes voting. During his 1995 visit to America, Pope John Paul II said: “Democracy serves what is true and right when it safeguards the dignity of every human person, when it respects inviolable and inalienable human rights, when it makes the common good the end and criteria regulating all public and social life.” Don’t forget to vote November 6!

Thank You received for the gift of $353 (proceeds from pie sales on Chamois Day) to the Mission to Magadan.  Thanks for your commitment and generosity to God’s work in Siberia.
