Text Box: “I’m sure I’ve had a great week at the Priests’ Institute this week. I trust that you kept the parish going without me. I’ve kept you in my prayers.
“We will be having a joint meeting of St. Mary’s finance and maintenance committees on Thursday evening, Oct 21 at 7:30 pm, to discuss replacing our old boiler which heats the church. The present boiler burns fuel oil, is old and inefficient. We would like, of course, to lower our fuel bills by having a more efficient boiler/furnace or even a ground source system. So we’ll be looking at the various bids we have received and trying to see what can be done. Anyone interested is welcome to attend.
“Handbell Choir rehearsal will be on Monday evening, Oct. 18, at 7pm in St. Mary’s hall.”...Fr. Dave

One Sunday for the Whole World - Next Sunday, Pope Benedict XVI calls every Catholic in the world to celebrate our vocation to be missionary. It’s World Mission Sunday!  As Catholics around the world — here at home and in the Missions — gather at the Eucharist around the table of the Lord, we are to pray for the Church’s worldwide missionary work. We pray for those awaiting the “Good News” of our Lord’s great love for us and for the missionaries who offer the poor and suffering the light of Christ. And we are to offer financial help through the Society for the Propagation of the Faith for more than 1,150 dioceses in Asia, Africa, Latin America and the Pacific Islands.  (Check your envelope contribution packet for the special envelope for “World Missions”.)
Text Box: Please - everyone gather your old prescription drugs from cabinets, drawers, and secret hiding places. Put them into a sack with your name and address on it. Leave all drugs in their original container. Give them to Parish Nurse, Lucy Brenner, any time BEFORE Nov. 3.  She will be glad to get these to law enforcement.

Congratulations to Jeremy and Celia McKague on the birth of their son, Rex Parker, on Tuesday, Oct. 12!

Save Box Tops & MNM Receipts - Osage R-1 Elementary School is collecting box tops and MNM receipts.  They would greatly appreciate any help in this endeavor.  Last year the school received over $600 from box tops alone.  You may drop box tops or MNM receipts in the box so designated in back of St. Mary’s Church or send them to school.  Thank you.

Bishop Gaydos’ Letter for World Mission Sunday
My Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Our Lord, before returning to the Father, promised His followers the Holy Spirit and charged them with being His “witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:8).
At Baptism, we too were called to be Christ’s witnesses.  We are to share our faith with those around us, and to support, in prayer and sacrifice, the work of missionaries who bring the “Good News” of Jesus to faraway places – to Africa, Asia, the Pacific Islands, and remote regions of Latin America.
On World Mission Sunday, celebrated this year on October 24, the Catholics of the world unite at Mass to recommit ourselves to this Baptismal vocation to be missionaries.  As we pray and respond here at home, we are doing what every Catholic is doing in every parish and chapel in every corner of the globe.  Your generosity through the Society for the Propagation of the Faith will reach those who await the “Good News” of Jesus, who long to experience His hope and love.
More than 1,150 young churches in the Developing World count on your generous response this World Mission Sunday.  Please also continue to pray that all of us may be the eager and effective witnesses of Jesus He asked us to be.

Sincerely yours in Christ,...Most Reverend John R. Gaydos, Bishop of Jefferson City
