Thanksgiving - Dinner will be served from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day in St. Mary’s hall for anyone who is alone for the holiday.  Invite someone you know who doesn’t go to church who is alone.  Also, we do need a head count by Sunday, Nov. 21.  Call your pastor or Viv Boss 763-5928.  Hope to see you there!
Text Box: “This week our attention will naturally be on the Thanksgiving holiday. It is right that it is so. How wonderful that we, as a nation, continue to take a break from our work and commerce to Give Thanks to our Creator for all the blessings of our land and nation. How wonderful that we gather with family and friends to share together in giving thanks. I wish each and every one of you a most blessed and wonderful holiday. It is wonderful also that it has been a tradition that we gather as a community for ecumenical Thanksgiving services. That tradition continues this year with services in both Chamois and Morrison. I urge all who can to participate in these services of Thanksgiving and unity as we come together with the different denominations in our communities to celebrate our oneness in Christ and our community family. We will be hosting both services this year, so I know you will be good hosts and make our guests welcome.
“Next Sunday is also the beginning of the season of Advent – our time of preparation for the celebration of Christmas – the coming of Christ into the world. We begin that first week with reconciliation services on Wednesday, Dec. 1.  Fr. Ed Doyle will be joining me in offering this sacrament to all. We will come to Morrison for confessions from 5- 5:30, and then be at Chamois at 7 pm for a parish Celebration of Reconciliation. Our PSR students will join us, and the four candidates for First Communion will be making their first confession. Since I promised to feed Fr. Doyle between services, we’ll have our Wednesday Mass with adoration at 8:00 am that Wednesday.
     “Have a wonderful holiday.”...Fr. Dave

Bulletin Deadline Change - The deadline for the November 28 bulletin is this Wednesday, Nov. 24, at 9:30 a.m.  Any items for the November 28 bulletin need to be in the parish office by that time.  Thank you!

December Calendar - A calendar listing parish events in December will be inserted in the November 28 bulletin.  If you know of an event not listed in the Calendar of Parish Events (church decorating, when poinsettias are needed, etc.) to put on the calendar, please get the info to the rectory by November 22 (can email rectory office, or call Ev at rectory or at home 763-5421).  Thank you!

Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) - This weekend we take up a collection that helps fight poverty at its roots.  For 40 years, the CCHD has provided funding for groups that make lasting change and lift up the poor in the U.S.  The collection has helped secure funding for low-income day care centers, legal advocacy to enforce fair wages, programs that emphasize education, and affordable housing in low-income neighborhoods.  If you forgot your donation this weekend, just drop in the collection basket next weekend.

Pray for Pro-Life - After 13 weeks of no abortions, the Columbia Planned Parenthood abortion clinic will resume aborting babies Monday, Nov. 22.  Your prayers are requested.  You are also invited to participate in a prayerful witness on Monday, Nov. 22, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. when the abortions are scheduled.

Handbell Choir Rehearsal this week - Tuesday, Nov. 23, at 7:00 p.m.

PSR News - There will be no PSR classes on Wednesday, Nov. 24, due to the Thanksgiving holiday.  On Wednesday, December 1, afternoon PSR classes will meet as usual and evening PSR classes will meet at 7:00 p.m. but will proceed to the Advent reconciliation service at 7:15 p.m.

Advent Reconciliation Services - Wednesday, December 1, at 5:00 p.m. at Assumption Church and at 7:00 p.m. at Most Pure Heart of Mary Church.

Advent - With Advent starting up (next Sunday, Nov. 28), please take a few minutes a day, maybe five minutes, and use “five minutes with the Word” to grow closer to the Lord before Christmas.  Spending just a few minutes a day reading “five minutes with the Word” magazine will dramatically change your experience during Advent from one of commercialization to spiritual openness.  Copies will be available in the back of church next weekend.  Please pick one up for your family and start a new Christmas tradition!

Stewardship Quote - Today we listen to the humble confession of Saint Dismas, the good thief; a confession that brought him mercy, forgiveness and great favor by the Lord.  What can his humility teach those who seek to be good stewards? That we must give up our self-importance, our self-centeredness, and learn to give ourselves over to God? That God has entrusted us with everything we have as gift to be used in God's service? That we treat others not with arrogance, sarcasm or put down, but with reverence and respect as gifts from God? Is it by recognizing that God is the center of the universe, not us, and that only Christ the King can bring us genuine peace and salvation?
