Text Box: “Advent is once again upon us. This is a time to prepare ourselves for the coming of the Lord at Christmas. How will we prepare? We must, of course, prepare our hearts to welcome the Christ once again into our hearts and homes. Often we seem to be at battle with the world around us. Indeed, we as Christians should be celebrating Advent and awaiting the Lord, while the world is celebrating Santa Claus and gifts and decorations. But if we fight the world we will probably lose. We need to transform the world and what’s happening around us, by transforming our hearts. If we are buying gifts, buy them out of love for others, remembering He who is the Gift of God. If we are decorating, (and even our churches will be decorated a bit early to welcome guests for the community Tour of Churches on Dec 11) remember that we are indeed preparing our home and community to welcome Christ! If we are celebrating with family and friends, remember the reason for the season, thank God for the gift of family and friends and ask his blessings for them. If we make a little effort, all the world’s activities around us can be a reminder of what this season is really all about - opening our hearts to greet Christ our Lord and Savior.
“A Blessed Advent to all.”...Fr. Dave

Bishop’s Advent Pastoral Letter
My Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ!  It is with great expectation and hope that the Lord Jesus again gathers us together as His People this Advent, 2011.  During this coming season of grace, we are first asked to reflect and pray about Christ’s first coming in history so many years ago.  Secondly, we are asked to prepare our hearts and lives for His final coming in glory.  And this year, as we wholeheartedly embrace the revised translation of the Mass in English, we have the particular gift of discovering anew how the Lord Jesus continues to come into our lives through the sacramental life of His Church.
My sincere hope and prayer for all of you is that this coming Advent season may truly be a time of rejuvenated prayerfulness, renewed charity, and revitalized faith.  May all of the prayers offered in private, and all the Liturgies celebrated publically through our Diocese, continue to give us the resolve to run forth to meet the Lord, that we may be worthy to possess the heavenly Kingdom.
With my best wishes and personal regards, I remain

Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend John R. Gaydos, Bishop of Jefferson City
