**Note Changes in Weekday Mass Schedule – Mass will be offered on Monday at 10:00 a.m. at Assumption for the coming week (Fr. Dave will be offering Mass in Hermann on Tuesday).

“November is for remembering our beloved dead. We do this in our hearts and prayers to honor them and assist them. There are many ways of doing this, but one of the ways is by having a Mass ‘offered’ for them. These Mass offerings are listed in the bulletin each week. By sharing in the material needs of the church through the Mass offering, you also share in the spiritual benefits. So this is a good and holy practice. There are a number of things to remember about Mass intentions: first this is just one special intention along with all the other intentions always offered at each Mass and along with the other intentions that the congregation brings in their hearts; when a parish or priest accepts a donation for a Mass intention, it must be offered within two years; while there is a minimum suggested donation ($5), larger amounts can be accepted. You might have noticed the many Masses being ‘offered’ for the Verhoff family. We accepted these intentions because we usually don’t have enough intentions from parishioners alone and so seek them from the Mission office or elsewhere. The Verhoff family was a member of the Argyle parish who left a very, very large bequest in their will for ‘Masses’. They might have thought that they were giving a sizable donation to their parish, but because they gave it for ‘Masses’ the pastor had to find a way to have all the Masses said within two years, and thus asked others to fulfill this bequest. And because the pastor could have these Masses said for ‘above the minimum’ donation, both our parishes received generous donations for these Masses as was listed on last year’s financial report. So making a bequest in your will for your parish is a good and noble act, that assures your generosity will continue for many years, and I highly encourage it. However money for ‘Masses’ must be fulfilled within those two years, and so anything over about 100 Masses (one a week) must be given to the Missions or another parish that will be able to fulfill them.”…Fr. Dave

Catholic Stewardship Appeal (CSA) – The CSA offers the people of God in the Diocese of Jefferson City an opportunity to respond to God’s call to share our gifts with those most in need.  Sometimes it’s difficult to envision how one pledge can make a difference.  However, each gift does make a difference because we are doing this together.  Our combined gifts signify our gratitude to God for all we have been given.  We share them lovingly in justice.  It is a concrete means of furthering God’s mission in our fragile world.
