This weekend is already the third Sunday of Advent – Gaudete Sunday – Rejoicing Sunday. We rejoice in the nearness of our Lord. He comes to us yet again. Let us continue to prepare our hearts and homes to welcome the newborn Lord.
I’m happy to see that both parishes surpassed their Catholic Stewardship goal. I’m sure the bishop will be pleased also. May God bless you for your generosity. However, I also noticed that the other number – the number of families participating seems low to me. MPH had only 32 families give, and Assumption 24. Is that the number of active families we have? We don’t have to worry about reaching a goal, so if you didn’t give, why not send in a dollar, to increase the number of families we have participating. God Bless you.

Christmas Open House of Churches and Tours of Homes, Rectory, and Barrister and BrewsSunday, December 16, from 1:00-5:00 p.m.  Culminating with Handbell Choir presentation and chili supper at 5:00 p.m. at Most Pure Heart of Mary Church.  For more info, see detailed poster in back of church.

PSR News – On Wednesday, December 19, all PSR students will meet at 7:00 p.m. in MPH hall for a Christmas celebration. The plan is to go Christmas Caroling – everyone is welcome to come along – parents, grandparents, parishioners.  Each PSR family is asked to bring one dozen cookies to share.  There will be no PSR classes on Dec. 26 or Jan. 2.  PSR classes will resume on Jan. 9.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:
A great amount of assistance has been provided to date to aid the victims of the terrible storm that struck the northeast U.S. this October.  While a sincere thanks goes out to all those who have helped to date—unfortunately there is much more to be done.  There are countless numbers of people who are still struggling to rebuild their lives in the midst of significant losses of their homes and nearly everything they owned.
Further, as is often the case, the Church in this area is both a responder and a victim.  Many Church structures have been damaged and their resources depleted, and this makes it more difficult to provide aid and comfort—and the sacraments—to those in need.
The national Bishops’ Conference is making a nationwide appeal to dioceses and parishes to take up a second collection sometime during this Advent and Christmas season to assist the people and the churches of the northeast coast of the United States.  These funds will be used to support the efforts of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and Catholic Charities, USA, the official domestic relief agency of the U.S. Catholic Church, as they respond to immediate emergency needs for such necessities as water, food, shelter, and medical care, as well as to the long term need to rebuild after widespread destruction, and to the pastoral and reconstruction needs of the Church.
I ask that we take up this second collection in the Diocese of Jefferson City on the weekend of December 22-23rd.  The coordinating agency for this collection will be our own Catholic Charities of Central and Northern Missouri.
Thank you for your generosity during this special season.
Sincerely yours in Christ…Most Reverend John R. Gaydos, Bishop of Jefferson City

(Note to parishioners:  Ushers handed out special envelopes entitled “Hurricane Sandy Relief” after Mass this weekend [Dec. 15/16].  If you didn’t get one, just mark the same on an envelope and drop in the collection basket.)
