Text Box: “Christmas Season is a time to be grateful for all the gifts we have received. We are, of course, first of all grateful for the gift of God to us - the gift of the Christ-child. Because of God’s generosity, we have been redeemed. I pray that our gift-giving this year reminds us of how much we have been gifted. Let the gifts you give be that sign of gratefulness you have for the other person, and receive gifts humbly from others; for they are grateful to you. I am thankful for the gift of being here and the opportunity to serve all of you. Receive my thanks and prayers as my gift to you this Holy Season. I pray that the Lord will bless you and your family abundantly this Christmas Day and throughout the New Year. And for your cards and gifts I am humbly grateful. Christ is Born! Let us praise Him! ”...Fr. Dave

PSR News - There will be no PSR classes on December 28.  PSR classes will resume on January 4.

Vocation Office/Priestly Retirement Collection - Our diocese makes an assessment to all parishes each year at Christmas to pay for the educational expenses of our seminarians and to help fund the needs of our retired and infirm priests.  (St. Mary’s assessment $732, Assumption’s assessment $958.)  This collection is taken up during the Christmas Masses.  Please be generous in helping your parish pay its fair share of the expenses of our larger Church.  If you’d like to make a donation and didn’t get to this weekend, just drop it in the collection basket next weekend.  Thank you.

Stewardship Quote - In today's Christmas Mass at dawn we hear from the Gospel reading that God has entered quietly into the world. Not into the great city of Jerusalem, but into a small village about five miles south. Not into a noble family, but to an outcast couple keeping the newborn in a manger. Not announced by royal edicts, but to common shepherds, the first human heralds of Christ's birth. As Christian stewards we simply allow Christ to live in us no matter what our circumstances happen to be. We allow Christ to share his love with us and reflect that love out to others. We now are the heralds of Christ's Incarnation. What an unimaginable gift from a generous Lord. Good stewards rejoice in this gift and give glory to God.

Help for Troubled Marriages! - The St. Louis Retrouvaille Program starts with a weekend Feb. 10-12, 2012, (Friday night thru Sunday) and has 6 follow-up sessions. For confidential info, call 1-800-470-2230, or visit

Christmas Pastoral Letter

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
"The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us" (John 1:14).  This Christmas, as we draw near to the Christ Child of Bethlehem, we again celebrate the closeness of God to us, for God became man, He came to dwell among us. Amid all of the struggles and divisions which continue to afflict the human family around the world, we who believe in the Lord Jesus are able to rejoice in the fact that God is not distant. He is close; He is "Emmanuel," God-is-with-us.
My hope and prayer for each and every one of you this Christmas 2011 is that as you gather with your family, friends and parish communities, your hearts and lives may be bathed by the joy and radiance of the Word made Flesh. Together let us contemplate this profound and saving mystery of God's love and may all our hearts be filled with the light which shines forth from the stable of Bethlehem!
A Blessed and Merry Christmas!
Sincerely yours in Christ, Our Redeemer,

Most Reverend John R. Gaydos, Bishop of Jefferson City
