“Lent is upon us once again. The Catechism of the Catholic Church reminds us that Holy Mother Church calls all Catholics to a deeper spirit of penance, fasting, almsgiving and prayer, ‘which express conversion in relation to oneself, to God, and to others’ ( # 1434 & 1969).
“This presents us with many challenges and opportunities. We are called to abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday and all Fridays of Lent. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are also days of Fasting. We are called to special concern for the poor, and to deeper prayer and worship.
“We will begin with a penance service next week on Thursday, 7 pm. This will give us an opportunity to clear out some of our sinful ways early in this season to make this period of Lent more productive.
“We’ll also be offering a chance for people to gather together to watch an acclaimed video series on Catholicism. It can be shown whenever or wherever people want to gather. Do you want to host a group in your house? Here in the hall on Thursday evenings? Or Friday mornings? Let me know.
“We enter and make this journey together. Let us pray for one another. Let us pray that we will all use this Lenten season well, and receive much grace in this holy time.”...Fr. Dave

What You Give Up for Lent Changes Lives – Our parishes will be participating in CRS Rice Bowl, Catholic Relief Services’ Lenten program, as a way to encounter Jesus through others, especially through the most vulnerable in our world.  You are invited to participate.  Rice Bowls are available in the back of church.  Please be sure to take one home and use the easy and fun resources to deepen your family’s Lenten experience.  Your prayers, fasting and almsgiving this Lenten season will help CRS continue to provide life-saving assistance in nearly 100 countries.  CRS works on our behalf to care for the poorest in our world and to end global poverty.
