Text Box: “Next weekend, we will be celebrating World Day for the Sick and offering the Anointing of the Sick at our Sunday Masses. This is indeed a sacrament of healing! We know Christ wants to heal us, and so we must ask and pray for that healing. Are you sick and in need of healing? We invite you to come forward for this sacrament. While we shouldn’t take this sacrament lightly, like asking for healing for the simple hurts that are healing just fine themselves, if there is anything serious or chronic, we should seek the Lord’s help and grace. And while we don’t ask healing from ‘old age’, we can seek healing for all the conditions of old age that slow us down or keep us from living the full life God wants to give us. And while we do indeed ask and seek physical healings for the sicknesses and diseases we experience in this life, the Sacrament of the Sick is ultimately for our spiritual healing – body and soul. That might mean that God is allowing us to share in His Sufferings as He shared in ours, in order to gain more graces for the Kingdom of Heaven. We can certainly paraphrase last week’s gospel and say: It’s better to enter into LIFE (God’s Kingdom) sick or diseased, than to fall into the fires of Gehenna.
“One last full week before Lent! Are we ready? Hopefully by Ash Wednesday – March 9, we will be ready to jump into this special time of penance in preparation for celebrating the Easter Mysteries of Christ’s death and resurrection and our salvation. But as good Catholics we celebrate till the last moment, and so invite everyone to a pot-luck Mardi Gras party next Sunday afternoon. Bring a little food to share, and a game to play (there’ll be bingo too!).
     “God bless.”...Fr. Dave
