Pro-Life Rosary - Monday, March 1, at 9:00 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church.

Stations of the Cross will be offered during Lent at Assumption on Thursdays after the 6:30 p.m. Mass and at St. Mary's on Fridays at 6:30 p.m.

Group Faith-Sharing Sessions at St. Mary's are being held once a week during Lent in St. Mary's hall on Friday mornings after the 8:00 a.m. Mass.  Come share a cup of coffee and discussion on how we can be "Disciples on the Journey.”  All are welcome to attend any and all sessions.

First Friday (this week) Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus consists of attending Mass and receiving Holy Communion on nine consecutive First Fridays.  Some of the Twelve Promises made by the Lord to St. Margaret Mary for those devoted to His Sacred Heart are:  I will pour abundant blessings on all their undertakings, sinners shall find in My Heart the source of an infinite ocean of mercy.

Text Box: It is, as you know, Lent. Lent is our time of preparation for the celebration of the Easter mystery, of the death and resurrection of Jesus. We prepare ourselves through prayer, fasting, almsgiving and penance. We are striving to prepare our hearts and our lives to be joined with Jesus in his death and resurrection. We do that through repentance. That is the main theme of these first weeks of Lent – repentance. And once we have repented we should celebrate it with the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession). Now is the time to turn from your sins, and so now is the time to go to the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Do not wait till the last minute. We are not preparing in Lent for the Sacrament of Reconciliation, we use the Sacrament of Reconciliation to help us prepare. We shouldn’t end our Lenten season with Confession, but begin Lent with it, so as to make Lent more fruitful. Indeed the theme of the last weeks of Lent changes from that of repentance to a more direct celebration/remembering of the passion and death of our Lord, and so we should be ready to enter into celebrating that memorial. It is already the Second Sunday of Lent and so I encourage you all to come to the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Unfortunately, other priests here in our area also seem to have extra Lenten services as we do, so I haven’t found anyone to come yet for a reconciliation service. So I will try and make myself more available. Besides the 5:15-5:45 time on Saturday before Mass, I can be available after Mass as well. Additionally on Friday evening after the Stations of the Cross, and Wednesday evening during/after adoration I can be available. If I find one of our neighbor priests available (I should know this week), I will be sure to announce it and make a communal service available.
“We will be having Stations of the Cross this Friday at 6:30 as scheduled with the hope that people might want to enjoy the Seafood Buffet first and then come on over to church for the Stations (with still time to return and help with cleanup afterwards)
     “Happy Lent.”...Fr. Dave

Volunteers Needed - The CYG group is very small this year and could use your help at their Seafood Buffet on March 5.  Would you be willing to help work at the buffet or bring a pie for dessert?  If you would be willing to be of assistance, please contact Kathi Schollmeyer 763-5409.

Obama Health Care Proposal threatens senior citizens' ability to use own money to save their lives and would make senate health bill more pro-abortion.  Action requestedContact your Congressman and Senators Bond and McCaskill. Tell them that you are opposed to any health care bills or new proposals that fund abortion or ration health care to seniors.  Contact info: Senator Christopher Bond, 202-224-5721, email on web at www.senate.gov; Senator Claire McCaskill, 202-224-6154, mccaskill.senate.gov/contact; Representative Blaine Luetkemeyer, 202-225-2956, http://luetkemeyer.house.gov.

State Sales Tax Legislation - SCS SJR 29 proposes to amend the MO Constitution by replacing the existing state individual and corporate income tax, the corporate and bank franchise taxes and the existing state sales tax with a new and expanded state sales tax.  Action requested by MO Catholic Conference:  Contact your state senator immediately (Sen. Frank Barnitz, (573) 751-2108, email Frank.Barnitz@senate.mo.gov) and ask him to please oppose SCS SJR 29. This legislation would tax Catholic parishes and schools and Catholic Charities agencies. The elderly on fixed income would have to pay sales tax for their prescription drugs. The poor would pay the tax when making their rent payments and when purchasing basic necessities like food, clothing, utilities, and prescription drugs. Major tax reform should be preceded by a thorough and unbiased study.

Operation Rice Bowl - As we continue our journey with Catholic Relief Services’ Operation Rice Bowl, let us be mindful that our Lenten sacrifices help to give hope to our brothers and sisters in need.
