Text Box: Lent – a time of penance. The Lord spoke in the Gospel of Matthew of the need for prayer, fasting and giving alms. But of course, The Lord was speaking of our everyday Christian life with him. Lent is the time to look over our life and reflect on how we are doing. Do we give time to HIM every day in prayer? Do we make sacrifices for HIS sake and for others? Do we give back to HIM for all his generosity to us? If we find we are a little lacking in one of these areas, now is the time to renew yourself, to return to those practices and good works which will keep us close to The Lord, and which we need to continue throughout our life. This is our first and a great goal. However, Lent is also traditionally (and tradition has great wisdom) a time for doing something a little more… for making an extra sacrifice… giving up something for Lent knowing that come Easter we will not continue them because they were the extra we were doing for Lent. Perhaps the wisdom is that we need to make up for what we failed to do regularly and perhaps a little kick-start to doing better in the future. Now is the time.
We of course have much going on. I encourage you to take advantage of the opportunities right at hand. Certainly helping out at our fund-raisers is giving of your time and talent. Coming to a daily Mass would be great. Could you not make the time? If you are free on Thursday mornings at 9, please join in our scripture reflection group. On Fridays, after Mass, we have coffee with a taped reflection. The men’s group, TMIY, will be continuing their Lenten journey on early Saturday mornings. We will be having evening ‘missions’ at both parishes this Lent – yes, it’s a big commitment to come every evening, but can we make time… for the Lord? The sacrament of reconciliation will be offered during those missions… will we receive that grace? And most importantly, lift up your heart to receive the Lord anew this holy season. May God bless you abundantly.”...Fr. Dave

Ladies Luncheon - Ladies and teen girls, plan to join other ladies/teen girls at the Ladies Spring Luncheon NEXT Sunday, March 20, in St. Mary’s hall.  Guest speaker: Sister Barbara Neist.  Topic: “Lent - Springtime of the Soul”.  Gather time 12:00-12:30 p.m., lunch 12:30 p.m.  RSVP by March 16 to rectory 763-5345, Ev Dudenhoeffer 763-5421, or Viv Boss 763-5928. $5 cover charge payable at door.

Journeying Through the Desert - Just as we are called to care for the gift of our eternal life, we are also called to care for the gift of God’s creation.  Catholic Relief Services’ Operation Rice Bowl supports agriculture programs in Haiti and around the world that teach farmers effective and ecologically sensitive growing methods which allow them to get the most out of their land while preserving it for future generations.  Rice Bowl packets are available in the back of church.

Stewardship Quote - Jesus responds to the first temptation by saying that one does not live by bread alone but on every word that comes forth from the mouth of God. The season of Lent invites us to consider how we nourish our hearts, how we act as stewards of the Word of God entrusted to us. A good reflection for the week: What do we live on? What keeps us going? Could it be possessions, prestige, the need to be in control, the need for security, addictions? Or the fervent desire to listen to God's word?
