Mother’s Day & Priestly Vocations – Pope Pius X was a very humble man and had a saintly mother, Margarita Sanson. Because they were so poor, she worked as a washer woman and a school janitor to earn enough money so that he could go to the seminary. (In those days, the family had to pay for the seminarian’s education.) When he was installed as Pope, his mother was present, and, as was the custom, she kissed his large papal ring. She then presented her tiny hand with her wedding ring and said, “Now you kiss my ring—for without it, you never would have received yours!”

Question of the Week - In what specific ways is Christ an example which you follow when dealing with others, especially with the ones against whom you hold a grudge or those who dislike you?
Bulletin Deadline – 9:30 a.m. on Fridays.
Action Requests from MO Catholic Conference (legislative session ends May 16 – don’t delay in contacting these legislators) -
- SB 680 would allow former drug users to receive food stamps if they met certain requirements. This bill is now poised for debate by the full House of Representatives. Contact Representative Dave Schatz (573-751-6668, email Dave.Schatz@house.mo.gov) and ask him to vote for SB 680.
- In light of recent botched executions across the country, contact Governor Nixon (573-751-3222, email at http://governor.mo.gov/get-involved/contact-the-governors-office) and urge him to halt executions in our state!
- A number of bills are moving through the MO General Assembly that would offer economic incentives for start-up businesses that are administered by the Missouri Technology Corporation. These bills include HB 1495, HB 1310 and HB 1501. In order to ensure that none of the state funds used by the Missouri Technology Corporation result in embryonic stem cell research, or other life-destroying research, the MCC supports a clear prohibition on the use of state funds for human cloning and human embryonic stem cell experiments in these bills. Contact Representative Dave Schatz (573-751-6668, email Dave.Schatz@house.mo.gov) and Senator Mike Kehoe (573-751-2076, email mike.kehoe@senate.mo.gov) and urge them to support a ban on all research involving human cloning, human embryonic stem cell experiments or other research that destroys human life at the earliest stages of development.
- SB 519 would extend the waiting period to obtain an abortion from 24 to 72 hours. If you haven’t done so, contact Senator Mike Kehoe (573-751-2076, email mike.kehoe@senate.mo.gov) and ask him to vote in favor of SB 519 when it comes up for a vote.
