“We look forward to having Bishop Gaydos with us on Tuesday evening for the sacrament of confirmation. Please join us for this important celebration.

“Our fundraisers are an important means of meeting our budget each year. As there is no one to organize a picnic, Rob Schollmeyer is willing to help with a Fish Fry like last year on July 27 if there is someone who will take care of the kitchen. If you can help with this please let me know.

Bishop’s Letter for Communication & Education Collection
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
On the weekend of Pentecost, May 18-19, I appeal to you to give generously to a combined collection for the Catholic Communication Campaign (CCC) and The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. The CCC collection plays a role in evangelization by providing grants for social media sites, podcasts, print media, radio, and television projects that spread the Good News. The Catholic University of America is unique as the national university of the Catholic Church and the only higher education institution founded by the U.S. bishops and chartered by the Vatican.
With a grant from the CCC, the Catholic Near East Welfare Association (CNEWA) prepared an immersion program in the Middle East for Catholic journalists from the United States and Canada. Instead of sitting down for a presentation on the flight of Christians out of Palestine, the group went onsite and experienced the harsh reality lived by the refugees at a Palestinian refugee camp near Beirut. Through firsthand experience of the cares and concerns of the Middle East’s Christian community, Catholic media professionals will be better able to stimulate the growth of quality news coverage of the Middle East from a Catholic perspective.
As the national Catholic university, The Catholic University of America provides a Catholic education for clergy, religious and young lay men and women from every geographical region of the United States. CUA has a special responsibility to educate future leaders for our Church and our Nation. The Catholic University of America belongs to all of us in the Church, regardless of where we live.
The Diocese of Jefferson City keeps some of the proceeds from the joint collection to support our local communication efforts such as the Mustard Seed radio programs in California and Moberly, the diocesan website——and religious-themed ads on regional radio stations. The collection also assists the CUA’s Parish Scholarship Program, which provides approximately $4.5 million annually in scholarships to over 1,500 undergraduate students nominated by pastors in more than 560 Catholic parishes in the United States, including students in our diocese.
On May 18-19, your assistance can help strengthen our Christian witness in the world. Please give generously to this important collection that’s being conducted in all of our parishes for the Catholic Communication Campaign and The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

Sincerely yours in Christ…Most Reverend John R. Gaydos, Bishop of Jefferson City
