Bishop’s Letter – Communication & Education
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
On the weekend of May 27-28, our Diocese will have a special joint collection for the Catholic Communication Campaign (CCC) and The Catholic University of America (CUA).  This collection’s purpose is two-fold:  by its aid for the CCC, it helps bring the gospel message to the public square so that all can know the love of God; by its support of CUA—the only Catholic university in the country chartered by the Vatican—it assists the Church in training the next generation of Catholic leaders in the U.S.
As people continue to access more and more information on mobile devices, there is an increased need to provide faith resources on these platforms.  With your support of the CCC, the daily readings are available as free podcasts to download and listen to on the go. In addition, the readings are also available in English and Spanish by email subscription.  As a result, people across the country are able to experience the Scriptures in a new way and are never far from the Word of God.
Catholic University's mission centers on the discovery of knowledge and truth through excellence in teaching and research, all in service to the Church.  Through its national seminary, the University provides graduate degrees for seminarians sponsored by nearly 195 Catholic diocese in the U.S.  In addition, nearly 500 Catholic parishes participate in the CUA’s Parish Scholarship Program that provide annual scholarships to students nominated by their pastors.  Your gift will ensure that students and graduates can continue to shine God's light in our world.
Half of the funds collected for the CCC will remain here in the Diocese to support our local evangelization projects, including social media networking and radio ads and videos that encourage inactive Catholics to return to practicing their faith.  Collections also help provide financial assistance for Catholic University students who are pursuing an education grounded in the Catholic traditions.
Pope Francis has reminded us that “communication has the power to build bridges, to enable encounter and inclusion, and thus to enrich society.”  (2016 World Communications Day Message)  Your support of this joint collection helps to enrich society and to invite all to encounter the love of God.  Please generously support this important diocesan collection for the Catholic Communication Campaign and The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.
Sincerely yours in Christ…Most Reverend John R. Gaydos, Bishop of Jefferson City
