Bishop’s Letter – CCC & CUA Collection
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
On Pentecost weekend, June 7-8, I ask that you give generously to the combined collection for the Catholic Communication Campaign and The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.  The Catholic Communication Campaign (CCC) supports projects throughout the world that evangelize through the use of media, including social media, print media, radio and television.  The Catholic University of America (CUA) is the national university of the Catholic Church and the only higher education institution founded by the U.S. bishops and chartered by the Vatican.
The 2014 CCC campaign focuses on the theme of faith, worship, and witness.  Technology offers essential tools to aid in the practice of faith, in worship and in opportunities for witness.  In his message for the 48th World Communications Day, Pope Francis says that technology is a “gift from God.”  He challenges the Church to use this tool to promote the faith, asking how communication can “be at the service of an authentic culture of encounter?”
The Catholic University of America provides a Catholic education for clergy, religious and young lay men and women from every geographical region of the United States.  CUA has a special responsibility to educate future leaders for our Church and our Nation.  Through its national seminary, the University provides graduate degrees for seminarians sponsored by nearly 195 U.S. Catholic dioceses.  Many of our diocesan clergy have studied at CUA.
Some of the proceeds of the joint collection stay with the Diocese of Jefferson City to support our local communication efforts which include the diocesan website and Facebook page, the Mustard Seed radio programs in Moberly and California, and faith-oriented ads on regional radio stations.  The collection also provides funds for student financial aid at The Catholic University of America, which belongs to all of us in the Church, regardless of where we live.
On June 7-8, your assistance can help strengthen our Christian witness in our Diocese, our nation and internationally.  Please support this important diocesan collection for the Catholic Communication Campaign and The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

Sincerely yours in Christ…Most Reverend John R. Gaydos, Bishop of Jefferson City
