“Well, it seems as if summer is finally upon us. I know that I rejoice in the weather warming up a bit, and yet rue the coming heat. We also will keep an eye on our rising river and pray that flooding will be avoided. So I hope that everyone will have a relaxing and joyful summer, truly being re-created for God’s service.
“While it seems as if not a lot is happening around the parish, we do not shut down during the summer. I fervently urge everyone not to forget about Our Lord, even in the midst of vacations and summer activities. The command to ‘Keep Holy the Lord’s Day’ is just as important in the summer months as in the winter. There are always opportunities to participate in Sunday Mass, if we are willing to make the effort to find and get to them. But, of course, the whole day should be Holy unto the Lord. Also please remember to support your parish each week, even if you are out of town.
“However, we do have a number of things going on, and to look forward to. Next week is the great Feast of Pentecost. I pray for a renewal of the Holy Spirit on each one of you and on our parishes.  June 25/26 is the Feast of Corpus Christi, and we hope to have Corpus Christi processions after both Saturday evening Mass in Morrison and Sunday morning in Chamois. We need our liturgy committees to work on those. Camp Hope is being planned for July 11-15; more info on that is it draws nearer. Most Pure Heart of Mary’s Parish Picnic will be Sunday July 31. So I hope to see a lot of everyone all summer. May it be a good one, full of God’s blessings.”...Fr. Dave

Pentecost Combined Collection
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
On Pentecost Sunday, June 12, in parishes across our Diocese we will take up a combined collection for the Catholic Communication Campaign and The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.  The Catholic Communication Campaign (CCC) supports Catholic media projects for the radio, television, Internet, and print in our Diocese and all over the United States.  The Catholic University of America (CUA) is the national university of the Catholic Church, founded by the U.S. Bishops and chartered by the Vatican.
Half the proceeds from this collection in our Diocese stay in our Diocese to support our local communication efforts, such as the Taos Sunday radio Mass, Table Talk program, the Mustard Seed radio scripture discussion programs and the diocesan Website, www.diojeffcity.org.  All of the collection proceeds that go to the CUA help provide scholarship support for students, including those from our Diocese.
Pope Benedict XVI said in a recent letter on World Communications Day, “I ask you to introduce into the culture of this new environment of communications and information technology the values on which you have built your lives.”  In today’s world, it is essential for the Catholic voice to be where the people are:  whether that is reading a newspaper, listening to podcasts on MP3 players or sharing on social networking sites.  For the faithful or those searching for faith, the CCC helps support rich content, bringing the gospel message one page, click, or download at a time.
The Catholic University of America fulfills a special responsibility to educate future leaders for our Church and our nation.  It belongs to all of us in the Church, regardless of where we live.  Its students are grounded in the philosophy of the Catholic intellectual tradition, well-prepared for success in life and ready to make a difference in the world.
Please join in this important work to bear Christ’s witness in the world through Catholic communications and through our support of the CUA by giving generously in the upcoming Collection.
Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend John R. Gaydos, Bishop of the Diocese of Jefferson City
