Text Box: “I am amazed and grateful for all the little activity that is already going on to prepare for the Parish Picnic. So I look for it to be a great success, thanks to the hard work and effort of so many people. Let’s continue to pitch in wherever we can to make this our best picnic ever.
“I’m still trying to see what interest we have in the Handbells. At least 9 people have pledged to ‘purchase’ a handbell in memory of a loved one, so we are on the way. Others have expressed concern wondering if the bells would be used if we purchased them. So I set up a meeting for anyone interested in being a part of the handbell choir for Thursday evening at 7 pm. See my ad elsewhere in this bulletin. But then the sales rep called and was willing to drive on up here from Georgia to give us a demonstration, so I am asking everyone to come just to be hospitable for her coming so far. So please come and I won’t take it as an interest or commitment to participate in the ensemble. But please do come and let me know if you are interested in ringing also.
     “God bless.”...Fr. Dave

Governor Nixon Allows Major Pro-Life Legislation to Become Law - MO Catholic Conference reports that Governor Nixon has allowed a new law to take effect that prohibits insurance coverage for elective abortions under the new federal healthcare law and gives women considering an abortion an opportunity to view an ultrasound of their developing unborn child.  SB 793 requires abortion providers to meet in person with a woman considering an abortion. That meeting must take place at least 24 hours prior to an abortion being performed.  The consultation must include information about the medical risks of abortion and allow the expectant mother to view an ultrasound and hear the heartbeat of her unborn child.  Abortion clinics must inform women considering abortion about pregnancy resource centers, maternity homes and other agencies that offer alternatives to abortion services. Women are also told about the legal obligations of fathers to provide child support.  Written materials must be given to women to supplement what is said during the in-person consultation.   A big thank you all who worked so hard to pass SB 793!
