**Mass Schedule for Holy Day - August 15 is the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and is a holy day of obligation.  The Mass schedule for this holy day is:
Tuesday, August 14, at 6:30 p.m. at Most Pure Heart of Mary Church
Wednesday, August 15, at 5:30 p.m. at Assumption Church

Potluck Meal at Assumption Church - Everyone is invited to a potluck parish meal at Assumption Church following the 5:30 p.m. Mass on Wednesday, August 15.  Meat will be provided at the potluck meal.

I hope to see many from both parishes at the Potluck supper at Assumption on Wednesday to celebrate their Feast Day and this important Holy Day. This week, except for the Holy Day, is ‘normal’. The next two weeks I’ll be gone – the last of our leadership course the first week and then some vacation time.  God Bless.

Nursing Home  Masses – A Mass will  be offered for  “Joseph (Joe)  Brunnert” on Tuesday, August 14, at 9:30 a.m. in Frene Valley Nursing Home in Hermann.  A Mass will be offered for “Agnes Koechner” on Thursday, August 16, at 10:00 a.m. at Autumn Meadows in Linn.  Everyone is welcome to attend.

Retirement Fund for Religious – A parishioner writes, “As a Catholic school student from grades K-12, I was formed to be the personI am by many religious brothers and sisters, and I am forever grateful.”  Show your thanks for the senior Catholic sisters, brothers, and religious order priests who made a positive difference in so many lives. Please give generously to  next weekend’s collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious.  (Check your envelope packet for the special envelope for this collection.)
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
On September 12, the Missouri General Assembly will have an opportunity to defend the religious liberties of Missouri citizens by overriding Governor Nixon’s veto of SB 749.  This legislation states that no one can be forced to pay for abortions, abortion drugs, contraceptives or sterilizations in their health plans if doing so would violate their religious or moral beliefs.
By enacting SB 749 into state law, Missouri can set an example for the nation on the importance of respecting the rights of conscience of all people.  The issue at stake here is fundamental to our basic freedoms as Americans.  Without the protection of religious liberty advanced in SB 749, the Church will find it increasingly difficult to minister through its schools, hospitals and other charities.
Many of our state senators and representatives voted for SB 749 during the regular session earlier this year.  But our legislators need encouragement at this time.  We need them to attend the veto session on September 12 and support SB 749 once more.  This is the only way we can make sure this bill becomes state law.
I know this is a busy time, but please take a few moments to contact your state representative and state senator before September 12 and urge support for SB 749.  The Missouri Catholic Conference has developed a pre-composed message that you can send.  You don’t even have to know who your state legislator is to send the message.  Visit the MCC at to send the message.  You can also call the MCC at (573) 635-7239 or 1-800-456-1679.
Ever confident in our ability to accomplish great things together with God’s help, I remain
Sincerely yours in Christ…Most Reverend John R. Gaydos, Bishop of Jefferson City

(Note:  On Sunday, August 19, after Mass, the parish computer will be available to anyone who would like to send the pre-composed message (Evelyn will be available for assistance) or you may drop by the rectory anytime someone is there.)
