Text Box:  “It seems as if, despite the heat, St. Mary’s picnic was a great success. Thanks to each and every one of you who worked so hard to make it so. We congratulate the raffle winners and promise a complete report when all the bills are paid.
     “Many know that I am serving on the board of directors of the Osage County Historical Society. We especially need to care for the Townley House here in Chamois. I encourage everyone to become a member and invite you all to the August meeting on Monday evening the 22nd in Westphalia.
     “Enjoy the rest of the summer, or what’s left of it anyway. I’m sure the kids are all excited that school will soon be starting. I’ll be taking a little vacation and getting away from the 23rd of Aug to 2nd of Sept. So I’ll be gone those two weeks.

Out-of-Town Mass - A Mass will be offered for “Alex & Stella Falter” on Tuesday, August 9, at 9:30 a.m. at Frene Valley Nursing Home in Hermann.  Everyone is welcome to attend.

Assumption Fall Dinner Raffle Prizes - Anyone who would like to donate a raffle prize for the Assumption Fall Dinner please call Mary Ann Lamb before August 15, phone # 294-7162.

Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary - The Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary falls on a Monday this year and therefore will not be observed as a holy day of obligation.  However, all are encouraged to voluntarily attend Mass or make some other deliberate, prayerful observance in honor of the Blessed Mother’s Assumption.

Unethical Research - The Governor is set to call a special session in Sept. to consider an omnibus economic development bill.  One part of this legislation is the MO Science Innovation & Reinvestment Act (MOSIRA).  MOSIRA does not currently include language preventing unethical research.  Action requested by MO Right to Life:  Contact Senator Dan Brown (573-751-5713 email and Representative Tom Loehner (573-751-1344 email and ask them to support the protective language of MO Right to Life for MOSIRA and any legislation dealing with human life sciences research.  Also call these state leaders who determine the direction of a piece of legislation:  Governor Jay Nixon (573-751-3222), Speaker of the House: Representative Steven Tilley (573-751-1488), President Pro-Tem of the Senate: Senator Rob Mayer (573-751-3859).
