“Next weekend is already Chamois Day. We should be sure the grounds and hall are in good order to be welcoming to all. Could anyone help trim the low hanging tree branches in our yard? Could anyone help with a little extra cleaning in the hall after all the mess I made with the bathroom remodeling?  PSR parents could help clean and prepare their children’s classrooms also. There’s always much to do around here.
“Elsewhere in this bulletin there is information about the Catholicism DVD series. We’ll be suggesting several times that might be convenient for people to gather. Please consider joining in a small group. The initial commitment is only 6 weekly meetings between now and Advent. (Taken up again in Lent.) Surely we have that much time to renew and strengthen our faith.
“I am again grateful for the volunteers who will be giving their time and love to our children to teach and pass on our precious faith. May God bless you abundantly in this ministry.
“Our handbell choir will be getting back into practice for another Christmas Concert in December. Come and join us on Tuesday evening, September  24th.”...Fr. Dave

MPH Chamois Day Items – 1) Pies for Peru Missions – Those who are bringing a pie on Chamois Day are asked to please have it in the hall before 10:00 a.m. if possible.  Thank you.  2) Grab Bag – MPH is also hosting a Grab Bag stand.  Grabs ranging in price from 25¢ to $1.50 are available for children (ladies grab bag available with the pie sales).  3) Fish Fry – hosted by Assumption Church.

PSR will begin on Wednesday, Sept. 25, with Mass at 7:15 p.m.  Parents of new PSR attendees (including any new kindergartners) are asked to contact the parish office to register their child(ren).  It is expected that students who attended PSR last year will attend again this year.  When PSR class is held, kindergarten through grade 8 will meet in the hall from 7:00-8:15 p.m.  Grades 10-12 will meet at that time with Fr. Dave in the rectory.

Calling All WWII and Korean War Veterans - Central Missouri Honor Flight needs your help in finding WWII and Korean War veterans for a trip of a lifetime. Do these heroes in your life know that they have the opportunity to be flown to Washington DC, at no cost to them, so they can see the war memorials dedicated to their service and sacrifice? Words cannot begin to describe how meaningful this one-day trip is for them.  These great and humble Americans return from a Central Missouri Honor Flight to receive the heroes’ welcome they never received.  The next flights will be October 15 and November 5, 2013.  Applications and information can be found on our website www.centralmissourihonorflight.com. You may call (573) 256-1930 with any questions or further assistance (you will need to leave a message - you will get a return call).

Stewardship Quote - Among the primary themes in today’s gospel when we hear Jesus’ well-known parable of the Prodigal Son is forgiveness and the need to repent. But from a stewardship point of view what is also interesting is one of the secondary themes: the failure to use responsibly the gifts that have been so generously bestowed. The youngest son who demanded his inheritance and left home broke no laws or religious commandments. His wrongdoing was that he wasted his inherited wealth, the abundant gifts given to him. His sin was in his extravagant living; squandering his gifts in pursuit of selfish pleasures. Good stewards acknowledge that everything they have comes from God, and they are required to cultivate these gifts responsibly. What are our God-given gifts? Do we use them responsibly? Do we exercise good stewardship over them?
