Text Box: (Continuing my reflection on the Roman Missal…) When the priest receives and prepares the bread and wine for consecration, the instruction in the Roman Missal is to say the prayers silently or at least softly, so as to give all a time of silent prayer after finishing the liturgy of the Word, and preparing for the important prayer of consecration which is coming. While the priest has the permission to pray the offertory prayers aloud, and the people’s response is available - Blessed be God for ever, the intent seems to be for silence or a communal song. So I usually try and say them softly or silently, and you should be praying silently at that time. You can even close your eyes until called back together with the invitation Pray brethren… I often feel that many people are staring intently at me at that time, which is a less important preparation rite, and then when we get to the Great Eucharistic Prayer and consecration, people are staring down at their missalettes rather than looking intently at the great mystery which is unfolding and becoming present on the altar at that time. (to be continued…)

Chamois Day will be here soon (Saturday, Sept. 15)!  The committee has asked our church to again sell pie & coffee for our missions and also to sponsor the quilt show in our hall.  If you could bring a pie and/or one or more of your favorite quilts, please sign up on the poster in back of church.  (Bring pie to hall before 10:00 a.m. on Sept. 15).  Volunteers are also needed to work at the pie/coffee stand.   If willing to volunteer, please contact Clarine Means 763-5667 or the rectory.

First Friday (this week) Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus consists of attending Mass and receiving Holy Communion on nine consecutive First Fridays.

The Handbells of St. Mary’s has again agreed to host a concert for the conclusion of Chamois’ Tour of Homes and Churches on Dec. 16. We invite all interested parties to come to handbell tryouts and rehearsals on Tuesdays Sept. 4th and 11th at 7 pm. We are in need of handbell ringers, substitutes and even a director if interested. Come be part of this Christmas concert and tradition.
